WEST MIDLANDS FIRE SERVICE DEPLOY FIRST HYBRID VAN FOR UK EMERGENCY SERVICES
The West Midlands Fire Service (WMFS) has become the first UK emergency service to take delivery of and deploy the latest hybrid van technology available in the country. The new hybrid Ford Transit van complements the West Midlands Fire Service's existing conventional vehicles and hybrid cars currently seen in their fleet.
The aim of using a van which utilises the latest hybrid technology is to significantly reduce the WMFS' fuel and greenhouse gas emissions whilst maximising long term financial savings from using such a vehicle.
The new hybrid Ford Transit van acquired by the WMFS was purchased using the Department for Transport's Low Carbon Vehicle Procurement Programme. This new initiative has been set up to assist public sector bodies throughout England and Wales to procure and assess Hybrid Low Carbon Vehicles, with the Department for Transport providing a subsidy of £3,430 per vehicle.
This has to be good news for those people looking to purchase new Ford vans like this or who are involved with or work within the public sector procurement process.
