VAN INSURERS WARN OF THE DANGERS OF DIAL AND DRIVE

A major Commercial van insurer has warned about the dangers of using mobile phones whilst driving, highlighting not only the damage to themselves and vehicle, but also the sharp hikes in van insurance premiums they will receive.
The Commercial van insurers Swinton Commercial found that premiums in most cases doubled, as a direct result of being caught using a mobile phone behind the wheel. Using information gathered from a large collection of van drivers, Swinton found that in one case an insurance quote increased by almost £1500, that's an increase of 128% compared to the initial quote.
The commercial insurers have been warning van drivers such as owners of Ford Transit Vans to ensure that they pull over at an appropriate and safe time to make or receive a mobile phone call whilst driving.
A commercial vehicle manager, Phil Moss, commented upon the company's warnings to van drivers saying:"For many van owners, their van is their livelihood, so it is especially important that they consider the risks associated with driving while using a mobile phone."
