The Ford Focus, a finalist for car of the year, 2012

It seems that every day, new Ford cars for sale are being nominated and awarded for their motoring innovation.  Just today, the Ford Focus has been shortlisted as a finalist for the 2012 car and truck of the year.

Something that shows how highly regarded within the automotive industry the Focus has become is the fact that is the only domestic models within the final three vehicles. Last year, the Ford Motor Company took both the car and van of the year titles, with the Transit Connect winning the van trophy and the Fusion Hybrid winning the car category.

Now in their 19th year, the awards are seeing a vast amount of commercial vehicles being entered, compared to recent years when domestic vehicles outnumbered commercial.

With six finalists, a jury of 50 judges, including independent motoring journalists, and industry experts will decide upon the winners, with the results to be announced on the 9th of January during the North American International Auto show.
