SMMT figures show positive January for Ford
January 2014 was a fantastic month for the Ford Motor Company in the UK, with recent figures showing that the carmaker experienced higher levels of sales and saw enhanced market growth.
According to figures released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), Ford domestic car sales during January stood at 21,792, representing an 11 per cent increase on the same figures from January 2013. The survey also brought positive news to the automotive industry overall, with the 154,562 newly registered purchases showing a 7.6 per cent increase on those recorded in the same period 12 months previously.
The figures showed that the new Ford Fiesta and latest Ford Focus managed to keep their places as the top two best-selling cars respectively; the Fiesta shifted 9,072 models alone, which was more than double its nearest competitor.
This also helped Ford's market share lift to 14.1 per cent - a 0.4 per cent increase on January 2013 and putting the firm 4.5 per cent clear of its nearest competitor.
Commercial sales also growing
When figures relating to commercial sales are also taken into account, the total number of Ford registrations during January grew by 11.7 per cent, with sales of 26,701 helping to boost their market share by 0.6 per cent to 15.3 per cent.
