RHA CALL FOR VOSA TRUCK TESTING MONOPOLY TO END

Chief Executive of the Road Haulage Association (RHA), Geoff Dunning, has announced that he has written to a minister at the Department for Transport (DfT) in a bid to open up truck testing to the private sector.
Dunning confirmed that he has urged Mike Penning in a letter to consider forcing the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) to relinquish the monopoly they currently hold on the carrying out of statutory annual assessments on these light commercial vehicles.
Explaining the reasons behind his request, Dunning said that allowing private firms to enter into the sector could act as a way of encouraging more fleet owners to put their vehicles in for regular testing, as they already should, which would both improve general maintenance standards amongst trucks and make a significant contribution to the UK economy.
