New technology that saves drivers from speeding tickets extended to Ford Edge
After becoming a huge success in many Ford cars across Europe, a new technology that helps prevent drivers from speeding will be extended to the new Ford Edge SUV.
The new SUV, which will be sold in Ford van dealers in Yeovil and the rest of the UK once it is released, will now come with the Ford Intelligent Speed Limiter. This technology scans traffic signs and adjusts a vehicle’s throttle so that drivers can stay within the legal speed limits and therefore avoid accidents, speeding fines and driving bans.
The news is very timely as an article on the Ford Motor Company Media Center reveals that The European Traffic Police Network will be putting in place a speed enforcement week in 27 European countries, whilst the Parliamentary Transport Committee in the UK is looking to use more speed cameras.
Technology popular with Ford S-MAX and Galaxy drivers
Stefan Kappes, who is the active safety supervisor for Ford of Europe, said, “Drivers are not always conscious of speeding, and sometimes only becoming aware they were going too fast when they see the flash of the camera, receive a fine in the mail or are pulled over by law enforcement.
“Intelligent Speed Limiter can remove one of the stresses of driving, helping ensure customers remain within the legal speed limit.”
The technology will be easy to use by drivers of the soon-to-be released Ford Edge SUV as it can be activated in the menu option of the vehicle by using its steering wheel controls.
The new technology is able to read road signs through a small camera that is mounted to the windscreen of a vehicle and the Intelligent Speed Limiter then slows the vehicle down to the required speed limit.
The new Ford Edge SUV will be sold in Ford van dealers in Andover and the UK next month and the model will become the largest of Ford’s SUVs in Europe.
