New Ford EcoBlue diesel engine unveiled in Ford Transit & Transit Custom

At the 2016 IAA Hannover Commercial Vehicle Show, the latest Ford Transit and Transit Custom models have unveiled the new Ford EcoBlue diesel engine.

The new engine is set to deliver an improved performance and fuel efficiency by up to 13 per cent compared with the outgoing 2.2-litre TDCi engine.

The all-new 2.0-litre Ford EcoBlue diesel engine provides the next generation of clean, efficient and refined engines for future Ford cars and commercial vehicles that will be sold at Ford van dealers in Salisbury and across the rest of Britain in years to come.

The diesel engine hasn’t just improved performance and fuel efficiency, but has also improved durability and lowered cost-of-ownership.

Speaking to the Ford Motor Company Media Center, Bernhard Mattes, chairman for Ford of Germany, said, “Ford’s EcoBlue engine is a real diesel game changer, combining reduced cost of ownership with outstanding performance and cleaner emissions.

“As our sales growth shows, Ford already offers the most advanced line-up of commercial vehicles in Europe, and the all-new Ford EcoBlue engine takes it to a new level.”

Ford vans boast new AWD system and SYNC 3

As well as being fitted with the new 2.0-litre Ford EcoBlue diesel engine, the latest Ford Transit and Transit Custom vans will be boasting an enhanced all-wheel-drive (AWD) system, while the Transit has been fitted with the latest SYNC 3 communication system.

The new, intelligent AWD system has been re-engineered to deliver improved capabilities that see it combine front differential and AWD coupling into a single unit, which has reduced the weight of the vans by 10kg.

The Transit AWD system automatically distributes available engine torque to front and rear wheels and can vary the front/rear torque distribution.

The new SYNC 3 system means Transit drivers can control their connected smartphones, audio, navigation and climate functions by taking advantage of its voice commands system.

By saying something like “I need fuel” or “find an address”, drivers will be able to find the nearest petrol station or the location of their next job.

As a result of these new developments in the Ford Transit and Transit Custom, the motor group is expecting its local Ford van dealers in Yeovil and across the rest of the country to continue to grow commercial vehicle sales throughout 2016.
