More Fords for AutoGlass
After 44 years of continuous use, it seems pretty clear that Autoglass is a Ford fan. The company, which provides replacement windshield glass as well as repair services to motorists, placed its first order for Ford vans back in 1969, and has just placed an order for another 90 new Ford Transit Custom Vans.
In the years that have gone by since Autoglass placed their first order with Ford, the company has grown tremendously and now serves over a million motorists every year. They have over 100 locations across the UK and operate a fleet of 1,250 vehicles. The vans that Autoglass purchases from Ford are specially outfitted with a rack system that securely holds the automobile windshields that are used to replace those that are broken or damaged; they also feature an electrical unit that enables technicians to charge and operate their power tools.
According to Ged Raymond, fleet manager for Autoglass, consumer taste in vehicles is much of what drove their latest order: “The glass we have to carry is getting bigger and therefore so must our vehicles. The 290 long wheel-base Transit Custom meets our needs perfectly and is being well received by our mobile technicians.”
In addition to the utility offered by the larger Ford Transit Custom, Autoglass has expressed driver satisfaction with the Ford vehicles that the company has used throughout the years. Raymond indicated that the average life span of each of their fleet vehicles is about four years and 100,000 miles.
