March Marks Highest Record Sales For Ford UK Since 2008

The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) has released its official sales figures for the month of March, 2014, which reveal that Ford has boosted its sales figures in both the car and commercial vehicle segments yet again. Both year-over-year and year to date figures are the highest that the company has recorded since 2008, and extends Ford’s sales lead over its closest competitor yet again.

Looking at the numbers for the first quarter of 2014 (year to date), Ford’s total vehicle sales led with 14.7 percent of the UK market. The Ford Transit and Transit Custom rank as first and second respectively of all available commercial vehicles, and the company’s total sales lead over its closest competition now stands at 24 percent.

Looking more closely at the month of March, the company sold a total of 74,684 vehicles representing 14.4 per cent of the total market, and the Transit and Transit Custom retain the same position for the month as they do for the quarter, ranking at numbers one and two.

According to Ford of Britain chairman and managing director Mark Ovenden, “March sales are boosted by the number plate change, and the month has seen Ford’s car and CV ranges continue their terrific 2014 sales performance with Ford registrations at their highest since 2008. These sales are founded on growth in the more profitable retail and net fleet sectors of the market and they are the result of our continued investment in exciting products and industry-leading technologies, delivered through the strongest dealer network in the UK.”
