Ford Transit vans are a regular sight across the world; but not often seen ferrying Swans across the countryside! Which is exactly what those living in and around the city of wells will be seeing as part of a new art initiative. The Somerset city will be preparing for the Queens diamond jubilee by placing 60 swans across the area between may and September as part of the ‘Swans of Wells 2012'initiative.
Transporting the handcrafted and painted Swans will be a great example of new Ford vans, a long wheelbase high roof Transit model that has been loaned to the organisation by a local Ford van dealership. The vehicle certainly has the space to transport at least 4 of the sculptures at a time, with plenty of extra room on hand.
The Swans will make their debut on May 22nd when they will be placed upon the route that the Olympic torch will be taking, and then they will begin to be placed in various sites across Wells. The initiative took the idea of Swans by them being synonymous with wells for centuries.
