Ford Transit Custom Achieves Market Share High
Ford's Transit Custom has been winning accolades and awards ever since its introduction to the European market, and now it has achieved another benchmark. The vehicle has led the company to its greatest market share in the European market in over ten years.
According to data released by Polk and analyzed by Ford, the company’s market share of the European medium van segment grew to 14.3 percent through September of 2013. This represents growth of almost 1.5 percent as compared to the same period for the previous year and is the highest share of market that Ford has recorded since 2002.
Ford’s sales numbers include over 25,000 Transit Custom units sold throughout Europe, with over 8,000 of those having been purchased in the UK. The European market consists of 19 countries, including Switzerland and Sweden, the Netherlands and Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain and Italy, Ireland and Hungary, Austria, the Czech Republic, Denmark and Finland and France, Germany and Greece. 2013 sales through the end of September totaled almost 107,000 Transit Custom and Transit units.
The good news for Ford appears to be on the upswing, as the numbers for September of 2013 show their market share climbing to 16.8 percent, the best for that month since 2001.
The Transit van has been the market leader in the UK commercial vehicle segment for 48 years. Among medium vans it leads by more than twice the share of the company in second place.
