Ford Transit and Transit Custom Recall

Over 16,000 individual Ford Transit and Ford Transit Custom vehicles have been recalled by the popular commercial vehicle manufacturer as a result of incorrect material specification that has been discovered in the clip that is attached to the brake pedal pin.

The part in question is referred to as a retaining ‘R’ clip, and the fear is that as a result of the potential failure of the clip, the brake pedal could become separated, thus causing a failure in the brake’s ability to function properly.

The vehicles in question were manufactured at two of the Ford plants; one located in Southampton and the other located in Kocaeli, Turkey. The vehicles were assembled between late September 2012 and as recently as February of this year.

The recall is being exercised as a result of concerns on the part of the company for the safety of their customers and drivers. There have been no accidents traced to the defect, and the company representatives have stated that no customers have experienced a failure as a result of the faulty clip. Ford spokesmen were quoted as saying, ‘The safety and comfort of our customers are always top priorities at Ford Motor Company.’ ‘For their peace of mind and convenience, we have initiated a Safety Recall to correct a potential product concern on certain Ford Transit and Transit Custom vehicles.’

The recall will be processed by local Ford dealers. Owners of the vehicles that are impacted by the recall will receive phone calls to schedule quick visits in to the dealerships, where the faulty part will be replaced at no charge.
