Ford’s Commercial Van Division Had a Banner 2013

As Ford enters the second half of its planned 24-month rollout of its renewed and expanded commercial vehicle line-up, the company is finding itself celebrating the final sales numbers for the division for 2013. The company announced that the division marked its highest percentage of market share in the United Kingdom in the last six years, accounting for an astonishing 20.9 percent of all of the nation’s van sales for the year with a whopping 72,238 units sold during the year. The number surpassed 2012 figures by 5,781 vehicles.

The United Kingdom accounts for the majority of the company’s overall European commercial vehicle sales, which also jumped in volume year over year. The company’s market share for Europe went from 8.5% in 2012 to 9.2% in 2013; the increase was the biggest seen by any manufacturer.

The majority of Ford’s sales volume came from the Transit Custom, remarkable considering that it was only its first full year of production. The company sold 41,500 vans across Europe, with their second most popular commercial vehicle the Ford Ranger pickup, which sold 15,400.

The company’s line-up is particularly strong, particularly with the introduction of the new Ford Fiesta Van and Ford Transit Custom in 2013 and the introduction of the new Ford Transit Connect, Ford Transit Courier and the new two-tonne Ford Transit making company leaders think that 2014 will be an even better year.

Kevin Griffin, director of Commercial Vehicle Marketing and Sales, said “Ford now has the freshest commercial vehicle line-up in Europe, and our latest products are bringing significantly more customers into Ford showrooms and Transit Centres. With more all-new products coming on stream this year, we are confident that our share growth will continue.”
