Ford Mustang launched into space
To celebrate the Ford Mustang’s 50th birthday, the car manufacturer launched a model of the car inside a weather balloon into space.
Ford dealers in the UK and across the world have sold millions of Ford Mustangs since its release in 1964. The muscle car became a hit across the world and since its birth has featured in an array of blockbuster films and popular TV series.
To celebrate the remarkable car, Ford came up with the idea of launching a model of the vehicle into the air.
Michael Sego, an area manager for Ford in the US, said in a statement, “We wanted to celebrate 50 years of Mustang and the impending arrival of the all-new 2015 Mustang by doing something really special. Mustang has always been about getting behind the wheel and hitting the open road, but we decided to take to the open sky.”
High altitude balloon took the Mustang into the sky
A small model of the Ford Mustang was taken 110,000 feet into the sky by a high altitude weather balloon.
The Mustang model stayed in space for around an hour before the balloon burst and the car came falling back down to earth.
Along with other quality new Ford cars, such as the Ford Focus, the Ford Mustang has been a huge hit with drivers from across the globe with over nine million Ford Mustangs sold to people all over the world.
As well as launching a model of a Ford Mustang into space, the popular car maker also revealed that it will launch a limited edition Mustang to celebrate its 50th birthday.
A total of 1,964 Mustang cars will be made in honour of the car’s anniversary, while the 2015 Ford Mustang will be unveiled on top of the Empire State building.
The 2015 model will be available to buy in two colours – blue or white. Work on the 2015 model is set to begin in the very near future.
