Ford look to develop partnerships with app developers
Ford Europe’s Manager of Connected Services, Duncan Burrell, has told delegates at a Mobile Marketing Live event in London that his company wants to develop closer ties with developers of smartphone applications so that their technology can be integrated with their own in-car multimedia systems.
According to Burrell, the manufacturer wants vehicles available at Ford car dealers across the continent to be able to fully interact with the world’s most popular mobile apps, including music services and navigation systems.
The reasoning behind this potential move, Burrell explained, is that market research has revealed how drivers buying models from new or used Ford car dealers are now much more likely to bring all of the apps they use on a regular basis into their vehicle with them on their smartphones, rather than deciding to buy any stand-alone devices or download programmes which are specific to Ford.
