Ford leads the way in the UK
UK market leader Ford increased sales and share and exceeded market growth across all sectors in November as it reinforced its lead in total vehicle, car, and commercial vehicle sales. Ford commercial vehicle (CV) sales were at the highest level since 1986 and more than double those of its nearest rival.
According to the official November sales figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT):
- Ford is the UK market leader in total vehicle, car, and CV sales
- Ford total vehicle sales were up 15.9 per cent against 5.3 per cent UK market growth
- Fiesta is the UK best-seller; Transit Custom first in CV and fifth in total vehicle charts
- Ford has five models in the UK Top 20 – Fiesta (1st), Focus (3rd), Transit Custom (5th), Kuga (15th) and Transit (18th)
The official figures from the SMMT show that total car sales in November were up 3.8 per cent to 178,876 units, compared with November 2014. Ford car sales were up 12.7 per cent at 21,597. For the year to date (end November) total UK car sales were 2,453,426, up 6.2 per cent compared with the same period in 2014. Ford car sales for this period were 312,006, some 63,070 registrations ahead of its nearest rival.
Ford is also the clear leader in retail car sales, which most accurately reflect the preferences of private buyers. At 10.5 per cent, Ford’s November retail car sales share was 2.0 percentage points ahead of its nearest rival, and for the year to date, Ford’s retail car sales share was 12.2 per cent, a lead of 4.2 percentage points.
“The success of the Ford range nationally is mirrored by our own experience,” said Tom Croft, Group sales manager for Foray:
“We are seeing growing demand across the Ford range and with ne Galaxy, S-MAX, and Mondeo lifting the top end of the car line-up there really is something for everyone backed up by highly competitive price and finance offers.”
