Ford Focus best-selling car in the world

The Ford Focus is currently the best-selling car in the world; that's the message coming from the automotive giant, which has confirmed huge increases in its levels of sales for the first half of 2013.

A stalwart in the compact car market since first rolling off the production line back in 1998, the Focus is now one of the major models of the Ford fleet and its supreme driving experience has been enjoyed by millions of people all over the world. Now into its third incarnation, it has managed to appeal to a wide range of different drivers thanks to models like the powerful ST and the eco-friendly Ford Focus Electric.

The claim has been made following the release of global vehicle registration data by Polk, with the auto-research firm finding that a staggering 589,709 new Ford Focus models were sold in the first half of 2013. Indicating a global sales increase of 20 per cent, the development only reaffirms the models' status among the most practical and versatile cars on the market today.

Overall, the firm sold upwards of 3.1 million vehicles in the first six months of 2013, and while the UK Ford, Europe and US markets are all positive, the biggest growth was seen in China, with the automaker's sales rocketing by 137 per cent. Should all the markets continue this pattern of growth, analysts are predicting that as many as six million new Ford vehicles could be sold worldwide before the close of the year. With Ford's ambition to bring the latest technologies into their new vehicles, it's no wonder so many Focus models have proved appealing to new car buyers.

This continues the positive fortunes that the model has enjoyed recently, coming after Ford also confirmed that the Focus was the best-selling model worldwide in 2012 after more than one million models were sold last year.
