Ford Fiesta dominates new car registrations in the UK
The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders have just released figures showing that the new car market in the UK enjoyed its best January in 11 years and that the Ford Fiesta was a top performer.
The figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) show an increase of 2.9% in new car registrations in January 2016 compared to the previous year as 181,474 new cars were registered in the UK.
Out of all the new cars registered in the UK at the start of this year, the iconic Ford Fiesta was the most popular car. The figures show a staggering 8,353 new Fiestas were registered in January and this is only set to increase as more new and used Fiesta cars in Taunton and across the UK are sold.
More Ford success
On top of the Fiesta, Ford were celebrating the fact that the Ford Focus was also a popular choice for drivers.
The Ford Focus, a model available in car dealers in Dorset and around the country, received the fourth highest number of new car registrations in January 2016 with 4,285 models being registered.
In an article on Auto Car, Mike Hawes, Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders Chief Executive, said, “January’s solid performance puts the new car sector in a good position to start the year. Providing consumer confidence remains strong, we expect a more stable 12 months ahead, broadly similar to 2015 which was, of course, a record year.”
The SMMT report also revealed that diesel cars are the most popular type among buyers with 82,311 new diesel cars registered compared to 81,292 petrol vehicles.
Other models that fell behind the Fiesta in the top 10 new car registrations list were the Nissan Qashqai, Vauxhall Corsa, VW Golf, Nissan Juke, Audi A3, Vauxhall Astra and the Mercedes C-Class.
