Owners of Ford's much lauded new electric Transit van will be pleased to hear that the world's first battery swap station for light commercial vehicles has just opened, raising hopes that a similar site will soon arrive in the UK.
The Slovakian capital of Bratislava was the chosen location for the innovative centre, which will allow the drivers of green LCVs to exchange their old batteries for new, fully charged ones in less than seven minutes. This means that those who make use of the service will now no longer need to wait longer periods for their existing battery to recharge and will not have to plan their journeys in any great detail beforehand.
This development is being hailed as exciting news by supporters of low emission vehicles in Britain and beyond, who will be hopeful that this announcement can persuade more people to invest in green models like the selection of new Ford vans which are currently for sale.
