Fiesta ST wins What Car Best Hot Hatch 2014 award
The Ford Fiesta ST has been named as the What Car? Car of the Year Best Hot Hatch for 2014 - a fantastic triumph for the company and one more accolade to add to the Fiesta's already bulging trophy cabinet.
First unveiled back in 2004, the supercharged sibling of the conventional Ford Fiesta immediately won rave reviews from critics for its explosive power and hair-rising performance. Sticking to these values is what has helped the 2013 Fiesta ST become such a huge success, beating stiff competition from the likes of the McLaren P1 to take its crown.
This is the second time Ford have won the Hot Hatch title in as many years, with the 2013 gong being awarded to the 250PS Ford Focus ST. The Fiesta ST has also been included in the 2014 Hagerty Hot List, suggesting that the model could become a collector's item in 25 years' time.
While Ford have received many awards throughout their illustrious history, they will be hoping that this year's release of the new Ford Ka and Focus models, as well as a host of innovative in-car technologies, will ensure this accolade is far from their last in 2014.
An easy choice
The What Car? Judges said that it was a unanimous choice in this category, describing the Fiesta ST as a car which invigorates, excites and helps put a smile on the driver's face every day. The panel also spoke highly of the incredible value which Ford is offering with the model, suggesting that - with its 180bhp engine, outstanding chassis and excellent handling - it could be worth at least a few thousand pounds more than the current asking price of £16,995.
