Continued Positive Van Sales Generating Optimism
New figures have been released from the SMMT for the month of November, and the results have the National Franchised Dealers Association (NFDA) smiling. The latest numbers show commercial vehicle registrations continuing to climb, with the registrations growing by 4.2% last month. This brings the total year-to-date increase in registrations of commercial vehicles to 131%, and that number is being particularly buoyed by van sales, which grew by a whopping 17.1% in November.
By comparison, the number of truck registrations has fallen dramatically. The decline following the new Type Approval legislation has resulted in a fall of 49.6%.
According to Sue Robinson, director of the NFDA, “It is encouraging to see that registrations of commercial vehicles grew 4.2% in November.” She also spoke to the fall in truck numbers, saying, “The most significant decline in the truck sector came from rigid vehicles between 6.0 – 16.0t – typically vehicles with additional bodywork fitted that would require the new type-approval. This sector recorded registrations of 219 units this month, compared with 1044 units in November 2013 – a massive decline of -79.0%.”
On a more positive note, she added, “We are hopeful that the van market will remain buoyant for the remainder of 2014.”
