2013 UK car sales best for six years
There was a huge increase in the number of new car sales in the UK last year, with 2013 confirmed as the best twelve months for deals on new plates since 2007.
The details come from data submitted by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, showing that the 2.26 million vehicles registered last year represented a 10.8 per cent increase compared to the figures recorded in 2012. Although the figure is six per cent less than the 2.4 million sales seen in 2007, it stands as a clear sign that the market is beginning to pick up. Sales in December also saw a month-on-month rise of 23.75 per cent, marking the 22nd successive month of increases to breathe even more positivity into the market.
It means that the UK car market outperformed most of Europe; whilst many markets on the continent are only just beginning to see signs of growth, the month-on-month increases in the UK, as previously mentioned, are now happily familiar.
Ford vehicles are two biggest sellers of 2013
In terms of the bestselling models of 2013, the Ford Fiesta took first place after 121,929 units were shifted throughout the 12 months. Second place in the poll went to the Ford Focus, with the 87,350 vehicles sold 3,000 more than those of the third placed rival.
Experts are predicting levels of car sales to remain stable during the year ahead, with attractive finance packages and the wealth of new technologies being introduced making delivery-mileage models ever more popular.
