Strong January car sales led by Fiesta and Focus

Newly released figures have shown that January was a stronger than expected month for new vehicle sales in the UK, with Ford car dealers in the South West once again taking a leading role, continuing a trend that was seen throughout 2012.

The data, published by official monitoring body the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) showed that registrations rose by an impressive 11.5 per cent over the period as a whole, with January becoming the 11th month in succession to bring with it a rise in transactions.

With 143,643 first hand units sold in total, and the rate of growth reaching more than 10 per cent for the third time in four months, there can be no denying that the UK automotive industry is one of the country's economic strong suits, and that Ford has played a large part in this continuing success story.

Despite 2013 being a new year, there was a familiar pattern to the sales figures which came in, with the Ford Fiesta claiming the number one spot for registrations in Britain and the Fiesta coming a close second. Overall, in excess of 7,900 Fiestas were driven away from showrooms in January, along with 5,794 Focus models.

As a consequence of these highly encouraging results, the SMMT has upgraded its vehicle sales forecasts for 2013, predicting an expansion of the market by 0.6 per cent over the remainder of the year, as well as a further rise of 2.6 per cent in 2014.

The Fiesta and the Focus are, of course, just two of a wide range of Ford cars for sale which are currently available and posted good figures in January, with the company's models in general once again demonstrating their popularity amongst the buying public throughout the month.
