Continuing large-scale production of the iconic Ford Transit van has been ensured for future years after it was confirmed that the manufacturer will be boosting the number of vehicles that will be made at its site in Turkey.
The company has announced that it will be investing no less than $1 billion into its Kocaeli factory so that production can be further increased in the country for global sale.
This investment is a mark of the highly ambitious plans that Ford has for its Turkish factory, with the group stating that they hope production capacity will increase there by 2014 from 210,000 to 290,000 vans. In total, Ford's operations in Turkey made a profit of around $396 million (£245 million) in 2011.
This landmark announcement will ensure that tradespeople across the UK will continue to enjoy the reliability and high performance that comes as standard with Transit vans in Dorset and elsewhere.
