Mild Hybrid (mHEV)
A mild hybrid uses a small electric motor to support the petrol engine, helping with acceleration and efficiency. The electric motor cannot drive the car on its own. There is no need to plug in, as the battery recharges while you drive.
Full Hybrid / Self Charging Hybrid (FHEV)
A full hybrid has a larger battery and electric motor that can drive the car on electric-only power for short distances at low speeds, when pulling away from a standstill and in stop-start traffic. The petrol engine and electric motor can also work together when needed. The battery recharges automatically, so there is no need to plug in.
Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV)
A plug-in hybrid has a larger battery that can be charged from an external power source. This allows you to drive further on electric power before the petrol engine takes over. It's ideal if you want electric driving for shorter journeys with the flexibility of petrol for longer trips.
