Ford Transit Courier Selected by Scottish Fire and Rescue Service

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service is a specialized service that provides fire prevention services to businesses and public buildings across Scotland, from the Highlands and islands to the borders. The service needs to be able to rely on tough, dependable vehicles to carry its equipment and personnel as well as to put on fire safety demonstrations, and that’s why they have selected the Ford Transit Courier.

The courier is the smallest of Ford’s offerings in the Transit range, and the Fire and Rescue Service is purchasing eleven of them. According to SFRS fleet manager Scott Roberts, the selection was obvious. “It’s a small van but the load space within is excellent and more than adequate for the job, but our chief concerns are whole-life costs and ease of maintenance. When you have a region to cover that’s as large as Scotland, an extensive dealer network is vital, and of course, Ford has a dealer in nearly every large town.”

In addition to the Transit Courier, the service has also purchased the Transit Custom for use in the Highlands. In this area there is a need for the double cabin van to provide for essential fire-fighting appliances, respiratory equipment and other important tools. The Ford 4x4 Ranger is used for water rescue missions because it is up to the task of towing heavy rescue craft.

According to Terry Adams, Ford direct sales manager, the company is honored and pleased that their line meets so many critical needs. “For the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, the extensive Ford range of cars and commercial vehicles ticks all the boxes, with a model ideal for every function within the service Ford provides an unrivalled customization service for ‘blue-light’ applications, and of course its service network across the UK is second to none. We are delighted to see our products helping protect the public.”
