Ford Mondeo in running for World Car of the Year
Acclaimed for combining the height of craftsmanship and elegance with outstanding performance, there's a reason why the Ford Motor Company has remained one of the most popular names in the automotive industry for so many years.
Founded in 1903, the group is perhaps best recognised today for their celebrated fleet of models like the Ford Focus, Fiesta and Mondeo - vehicles which have all received countless industry awards in their respective categories.
Now, the Mondeo is in the running for one of the biggest accolades of them all: the World Car of the Year 2014. Set up in 2004, the World Car of the Year Awards were designed to recognise automotive excellence on an international scale, and achieving this success with the utmost objectivity, credibility and integrity.
The Mondeo will have to fight off stiff competition in order to take home the coveted prize, with the Audi A3, BMW 2 Series, Mercedes Benz GLA and the Toyota Corolla among the other models which are in contention.
An outstanding model in the large family car market, the Mondeo has been celebrated since it first appeared in Ford UK dealerships back in 1992 and in the intervening years has been introduced in countries all over the world.
With the fifth generation set to become available in 2014, the Mondeo is one of many Ford vehicles which can be fitted with the revolutionary EcoBoost engine, combining excellent performance with superb fuel consumption and eco-friendly emissions figures. A true motoring innovation, it should come as little surprise that the EcoBoost has been named as the International Engine of the Year in both 2012 and 2013.
