First images of European Ford Edge unveiled

The first images of the new Ford Edge have emerged, showing off a sleek and stylish 4x4 which will look to take the European large car market by storm when it arrives in 2015.

Towering above the youthful EcoSport and the Kuga, the Edge will complete the line-up of all-terrain vehicles from Ford and also offer a wider choice for customers to take advantage of. With the model proving a big hit since being launched in America in 2006, the company has high hopes for the Edge to experience a similar level of success across Europe.

While Ford is yet to confirm the official engine size of the vehicle, it is likely that the Edge will be available with a variety of the EcoBoost engine, celebrated for offering high levels of performance with excellent rates of fuel efficiency. The images released show that the model will feature a touchscreen centre console, showing that Ford is keen to move away from huge amounts of buttons and offer the driver an experience of simplicity.

One thing that is for sure is that the Edge will feature outstanding levels of craftsmanship and style, both attributes which can be found across the fleet of new and used Ford vehicles on the market.

The announcement gives Ford a healthy advantage over many of its rivals, with Vauxhall, Honda and Renault among those who are yet to release a flagship 4x4 vehicle on the continent.

It is the latest in a series of announcements of future products from the automotive giant, with the most recent of those being the unveiling of the new Ford Ka - a five-door model which is expected to become available from Ford dealerships by late 2015.

Prices for the model are believed to start at around £25,000, with the first orders hoped to become available in 2015.
