BT orders 1,000 new Ford vans for nationwide fleet

Telecommunications giant BT has ordered 1,000 brand new Ford vans in the first three months of 2015, choosing the models donning the blue oval as the perfect workhorse for their fleet.

Thought to be the biggest fleet regeneration ever undertaken by BT, it comes after the company revaluated their needs for the next seven years. It is believed that the order is made up of around 500 Ford Transit Customs, along with 200 Transit vans and a further 300 Fiesta vans.

One of the biggest successes since its launch back in 1996, the Ford Transit has been the best-selling light commercial vehicle for the last four decades and is now into its fifth generation. The Transit name has been used on a number of commercial vehicles from Ford in a variety of sizes, the most notable being the aforementioned Transit Custom and Transit Connect.

Vans helping BT meet growing demand

Although some of the vans will be replacing other customer service vans, others will be used to help meet the extra demand. The long wheelbase and high roof of the Ford Transit custom makes it the perfect model to suit the needs of customer service engineers carrying equipment, while the nimble and agile Fiesta vans will be used by those based in telephone exchanges.

When speaking about the deal, Ian Watson, Ford Manager of Direct Sales, said: "This is a major order and a tough one to fulfil in the timescale and Ford is delighted to have been able to meet BT's requirements in terms of speed of delivery and quality of product.
