Ford Transit Connect Chosen by Mears Group
News has come that one of the first fleet customers for the new Ford Transit Connect will be taking their initial delivery of vehicles this month, with many more to follow. Mears Group, a Gloucester-based care services specialist with 16,000 employees who provide maintenance services to local authorities as well as to registered social landlords, has placed an order for 1,000 Ford Transit Custom models and Ford Transit Connect models. The delivery will be spread over the coming year.
The contract between Mears and Ford covers a five-year period, with the order expected to deliver 1,000 vehicles each year. The company’s current fleet includes 700 cars and over 4,000 vans, which are used to deliver over 6,000 repairs each day to over a million individual sites and properties.
According to Mears Group’s asset manager Jo Hammonds, the company chose the Transit Connect for a number of reasons, including the lower fuel costs and improved practicality that the vehicle offered. “The new Ford Transit Connect’s fresh styling, greater load space, better economy, emissions and whole-life costs are the factors which make it a very attractive prospect for us.”
The vehicle’s long wheelbase model is able to provide up to 3.6m3 of load space and has a carrying capacity of 1,000 kg. It also provides convenience for those that need to carry long load items, as it comes equipped with a load-through bulkhead, and allows three passengers to sit in the front seat.
