A2Z Names Ford Transit Van of the Year

Vans A2Z, a popular website that enables viewers to research and compare light trucks and vans available for sale in the United Kingdom, has revealed the winners of its annual Van of the Year Awards. The selection process involves extensive road testing of all the available vehicles to compare handling, comfort, ride and functionality as well as the cost to drive and other factors. Several categories are awarded prizes, but this year Ford’s commercial vehicles won more of them than any single company has ever won before, with a total of six different trophies, including Van of the Year for the Transit Custom.

Though Ford was recognized for its Transit van, the Fiesta and the Ranger, it was the Transit Custom that stole the show, winning recognition in the newly-introduced category of Best Innovation for its five-star Euro NCAP safety rating as well as in the category for Best Small Panel Van. The voting committee at Vans A2Z chose the best overall Van of the Year from amongst the winners in each category, and Neil McIntee, editor of the website indicated that the vehicle was chosen because it had “raised the bar to new heights …. In terms of dynamics, refinement, safety and clever, functional design features, it is untouchable.”

The other winners that Vans A2Z recognized among Ford’s wide range of vehicles were the Ranger pick-up, which received a Highly Commended rating as International Pick-Up of the Year, the Ford Transit for Best Minibus (this is the third time that the Transit received this award), and the new Fiesta Van won Best Small Van. Ford Commercial Vehicle’s chief designer Paul Campbell was gratified by the awards, indicating that it was a recognition of the company’s continuing dedication to “modern aesthetics, innovative design features and the latest in high-tech, low-CO2 powertrains.”
