Mondeo Economical Running - As easy as 123!
Ford’s Mondeo Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) has juts proved that even a big luxury saloon can be economical on fuel.
Driven by Andy Dawson and co-driver John Chillman over the 80 mile route of the Layer Marney Cup run in Essex close to the Ford research centre at Dunton where it was developed, the Mondeo averaged 123.77 mpg, almost 55mpg more than the second-placed hybrid.
Proving that hybrid motoring need cost no more than conventional cars, the Mondeo hybrid is actually £650 less than the nearest matching diesel in the Mondeo line-up.
Even better, there’s no need to plug the car in to get maximum benefit – in fact it has no charging cables at all. It recharges its batteries on the move by recycling energy that would otherwise be lost through braking, the most convenient way to enjoy low emissions motoring while helping reduce emissions.
Ford has been at the forefront of new technologies across the world and is also applying hybrid engineering to its vans. A hybrid Transit Custom will be on sale by next year.
