Auto Express Takes a Look at the Ford Focus ECOnetic

The popular UK based car website Auto Express recently took a look at the new Ford Focus ECOnetic to see whether the car lives up to its promise of incredible fuel economy.

The popular new car boasts an impressive 83.1mpg and 88g/km of CO2, a claim which has impressed many, and it was a claim which Auto Express wanted to put to the test. The engine under the bonnet features a brand new injection system and turbo, which combines with a special low friction oil in the transmission and a number of other tweaks to offer improved fuel consumption.

The site found that the tweaks throughout the engine may seem small at first, but they really added up in the long run. The new car was also seen as being favourably priced, it's fuel economy didn't quite match that of the Volkswagen Golf, at 88.3mpg, but it made up for that with the lower initial price of the car.

The reviewer from the site was also pleased to find that the Ford Focus's ECOnetic diesel engine offered a more refined driving experience than similar eco-cars. It took a little time to warm-up but, once up to temperature, it was quiet and the "fuel-saving stop-start system is pretty unobtrusive, too, cutting and restarting the car smoothly"

When it comes to the interior, the car was found to be fitted out for day-to-day life. It might not be the most luxurious, but the build quality was solid, offering up a DAB radio, leather-trimmed wheel and the popular Ford SYNC system.

The site came to the overall opinion that the car was a good pick, giving it four out of five stars and concluding that "the Focus ECOnetic proves that a well equipped, good to drive, comfortable and reasonably practical car can also return some very impressive fuel economy figures".
